One of the discoveries from The Govt. College of Art & Craft is Basudeb Pal Majumdar, whose gentle, sophisticated style is a feast for the eyes. As a wildlife photographer, he has spent a lot of time in remote places, tribal villages and forests. Painting, however, gives him an edge over photography as he's able to harmonize his visual language with his philosophy which has been inspired, in his own words, “by the sensuous beauty of living entities and Life itself." His canvases are juxtaposed with a web of images in the background which are impressions of the subconscious mind...fragments of memory and visual enigmas woven together beautifully. Being lost in a busy metro city, Basudeb likes to play a game of losing himself in the inexplicable forest; that of the canvas & becoming one with it.
