Samindra's paintings are, in a sense, quotes from the past. He offers us multiple readings of his encounters with experience, often existing simultaneously and oppositionally in the same work, indicating his undecidedness in adopting interpretative directionality. The interesting play between what appears to be a flat surface and barely-there deep space- the latter assuming the proportions of an epiphanic flash leading to a glimpse of the beyond" is in fact a counterpointing of attitudes. This reveals a dual tendency: to evaluate experience as a sedimentary formation (with the top layer visible, indicating, therefore, unseen presence which can be penetrated to expose areas of ultimate meaning/non-meaning, as also a simultaneous and contradictory impulse to discard experience as two-dimensional,weightless and insignificant.
